TURLOCK, Calif. – Dominican track and field saw its first individual victory of the 2026 season while setting several personal bests over two days at the Kim Duyst Invitational at Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.
Jalydon Love became the first Penguin to finish first in any event this season as he beat the personal best he set two weeks ago in the 400m as he finished in 48.80 to edge Shiv Mohan from UC Santa Cruz by .07 seconds at the finish line. Love added a seventh place finish in the 200m later in the day as he crossed the finish line in 22.02 seconds.
Robert Dawson got Saturday started off strong for the Penguins as he ran the second fastest time in Dominican's history in the 5000 meter. Dawson crossed the line in 14:56.0 to beat out runners from Stanislaus State and UC Merced as well as
Logan McNamar, the man he passed on the all-time DU leaderboard, for third place.
Lisandro Guzman set a new personal best in the pole vault as he cleared 2.90 meters to take 10th overall.
Diego Montag claimed a pair of sixth place finishes in the 800m and 1500m races. Montag finished the 800m in 1:57.66 to edge Saul Jimenez of Cal Poly Humboldt by .13 seconds. He then topped Eduardo Palma of UC Santa Cruz by the same margin in the 1500m as he crossed the line in 4:05.0. The men's top 4x400 relay team finished eighth overall to cap the day as they crossed the finish line in 3:31.23.
LaNicia Ellis led the women as she beat her personal and Penguin record in the 400m as she took second in the 400m finishing in 56.23 to top runners from Fresno State, UC Santa Cruz and UC Merced. She added another personal best in the 200m as she finished in 24.97 seconds to place seventh in the event and hundredths of a second behind Ani Brown of Fresno State.
Tatyana Robles and
Sarah Chavez once again each claimed a spot in the top-10 in the 800m with Robles finishing ninth with a time of 2:21.75 and Chavez directly behind her in 10th and finishing in 2:22.19, a new personal best.
Sienna Fassett continued to perform well in pole vault clearing the bar at 2.45 meters to place fifth overall ahead of athletes from Hartnell and Jessup. The women's 4x400 relay team took second in a field of eight teams narrowly missing setting a new Dominican record by a tenth of a second as they crossed in 4:08.83.
Dominican will compete next at the Chico Wildcat Invite beginning Friday at University Stadium in Chico, California.
