TURLOCK, Calif. – Dominican track and field wrapped up its second weekend of the 2025 season with more personal bests and history made at the Kim Duyst Invitational on Saturday at Warrior Stadium.
Chico State won the men's side of the invitational as it finished with 179 points with the Penguin men finishing 15th with three points. Fresno Pacific had the best score on the women's side with 145 points while the Domincian women finished 10th with 18 points.
Andrew Reinhard continued to led the Penguin men in throws as he finished led his team with a 38th overall finish in the discus with a throw of 31.00m and 16th in the javelin with a throw of 42.55m, while recording the second best shot put for Dominican with a mark of 9.77m to finish 39th.
Gabe Sanchez also impressed in the throws as he set a personal best throw of 28.12m in discus (40th) and 9.92m in the shot put (37th), second only to Reinhard in the Penguin record books for both events.
Much like Reinhard,
Caytlin Capulong continues to lead the Penguins in the throws on the women's side. Capulong finished sixth overall in the javelin with a throw of 32.27m to earn four points for her squad, while
Miekayla Surnip finished ninth with a throw of 30.36m, a personal best, to take home another point from the event.
Sienna Fassett became the second athlete from Dominican to compete in the pole vault finishing just shy of Capulong's program record in the event with a mark of 2.30m.
In the track events,
Bella Bueno set a new personal best in the 800m as she crossed the line in 2:25.15 to place eighth and add another point to the team score.
LaNicia Ellis claimed the top finish of any Penguin in an individual event as she set a new personal best in the 400m with a time of 1:00.33 to place fourth and claim six points for the team score.
Worthy Gutierrez had the best individual finish the Dominican men as finished 11th in the 400m with a time of 51.43. Ellis, Bueno, Fassett and
Sarah Chavez added six points to the Dominican score with a fourth place finish in the women's 4x400 relay with a time of 4:22.09.
Jalydon Love,
Diego Montag, Jeroam Wood-Pina and
Lisandro Guzman meanwhile earned the only points for the men's side as they finished sixth in the men's 4x400 relay with a tie of 3:29.70.
Dominican will next take its talents north Saturday as it heads to the Chico Wildcat Invite at University Stadium in Chico, California.
