2025-26: Montag placed second at the Jessup XC Invite and recorded a season-best 26:42.2 over 8K at the Kim Duyst Twilight. He finished 46th at the PacWest Championships as Dominican placed seventh with 202 points. During the spring, Montag broke the school record in the 800 meters with a 1:55.66 at the Chico Invitational and later won the event at the Payton Jordan Invitational in 1:57.19. He also ran 4:01.71 in the 1,500 at the West Coast Relays. At the PacWest Championships, Montag joined Dominican's fifth-place 4x400-meter relay, which clocked 3:19.12, the second-fastest time in program history, and added four points to the Penguins' seventh-place total. He earned Academic All-PacWest honors in both cross country and track and field.

2024-25: Montag won the Jessup Cross Country Invitational in 26:36.8 and lowered his 8K best to 26:00.0 while placing 43rd at the PacWest Championships. He followed with a strong first track season, running 1:56.95 in the 800 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and 4:00.12 in the 1,500 at the Johnny Mathis Invitational, the third-fastest 1,500 in program history. Montag ran on the school-record 4x400-meter relay that finished fourth at the PacWest Championships in 3:18.05 and also contributed to Dominican's 11:25.20 distance medley relay, the second-fastest in school history. He earned Academic All-PacWest honors in both cross country and track and field.

Before Dominican: Three-time team MVP at Adolfo Camarillo...Holds four school records for the Scorpions: 600m, 1500m, 4x800 and 1.9 mil (XC)...Named Rookie of the Year as a freshman...So Cal Frosh Champion in the 800m...Named as a scholar athlete eight times during his four year high school career...Captain for both cross country and track for two years.
