SONOMA, Calif. – Dominican men's golf finished fourth at the Dominican Spring Invitational after finishing the final round Tuesday at Sonoma Golf Club.
Cal State Dominguez Hills won the team title after a brilliant final round of 2-under 286 helped them pull away and win by seven strokes at 10 over par. The Penguins finished at 21 over par to top Menlo, St. Olaf and Chaminade.
Daniel Marmorstein led the way for Dominican as he opened with a 3-over 75 and caught fire in the second round with four birdies and 12 pars to finish with a 2-under 70 to move into the top-10 on the leaderboard. Marmorstein started slow in the final round but went 1 under on the back nine with two pars and four birdies to finish his day with a 73 and finish tied for sixth.
Jonathan Chen did not enjoy his best day during the two rounds Monday as he posted a 76 and 77, but no Penguin was better in the final round as he sank six birdies to finish with a 3-under 69 and shoot up the leaderboard into a tie for 12th at 6 over par.
Carson Sorci shook off an 81 to start his tournament and hit his stride over the final two rounds finishing with the second best score on the team in both segments. In Monday's second round, Sorci dominated the back nine with four birdies and no bogeys to finish with a 1-under 71. Sorci had five more birdies in his final round including one on each of his final two holes to finish at even par and tie for 19th at 8 over.
Jerred Scott shot rounds of 77, 75 and 75 to finish at 11 over and 24th individually, while
Carter Degelman finished in 30th at 20 over par.
Dominican will conclude its preparations for the conference championships at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational beginning Monday at Turlock Golf and Country Club.
