Penguins tie for fourth

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Daniel Marmorstein led Dominican men's golf to a fourth place tie at the PacWest Men's Golf Championships after Wednesday's final round at Aliante Golf Club.

No. 28 University of Hawai'i at Hilo was dominant throughout the tournament as they never posted a single round above par as a team finishing at 7 under for the tournament with Menlo and Westmont both over 10 strokes behind. The Penguins finished at 25 over to tie with Vanguard and two strokes ahead of Jessup. 

It was an inauspicious start for Marmorstein who finished with a 5-over 77 in the first round, but he shook off his disappointment and went on a tear over the final two rounds as he began is ascension on the individual leaderboard. Marmorstein had two birdies on the front nine of his second round to finish even par and went on to finish at 1 over to move up 12 spots. He then played one of the best rounds of his Dominican career as he eagled on hole eight to make the turn at 2 under and added three birdies on the back nine to finish with a 4-under 68. After all was said and done, Marmorstein found himself solidly in the top-10 at 2 over par to finish tied for sixth. 

Carson Sorci followed suit with his lowest round coming on Monday with a 76, but he found improvement in his final two rounds going 2 over in the second round to begin the turnaround. Sorci also had an eagle in Dominican's final round on the 14th hole to go 1 under on the back nine on his way to a 1-over 73. Sorci finished tied 17th at seven over par. Jerred Scott was one stroke behind Sorci tied for 20th place as he opened with rounds of 75 and 77 before closing with an even par 72 with three birdies all on the back nine to help Dominican maintain its spot on the team board. 

Jack Gladys led the Penguins on day one as he finished with four birdies to go 1 over. He followed up with rounds of 77 and 75 to finish 23rd at 9 over for the tournament. Jonathan Chen rounded out the team posting rounds of 76, 77 and 75 to tie for 26th on the individual board at 12 over par.
