CARMEL, Calif. – Dominican men's golf did not have much time to rest as it jumped from the SMU Bishop Invitational Saturday to the RCA Electric Invitational on Monday where it finished third after 54-holes at The Quail Golf Club.
Claremont Mudd Scripps won the team title at 19 over with Cal Lutheran in second at 27 over and the Penguins in third at 32 over par. Dominican topped teams from Cal State Dominguez Hills, Menlo and Chaminade at the tournament.
Jonathan Chen picked up where he left off on the weekend with his first round under par as a Penguin and shot a 3-under 68 in Monday's first round with seven birdies including three in a row to open the day. Chen opened the second round with an eagle on 15 to go with eight pars as he led Dominican with a 3-over 74. Chen concluded his tournament with another 74 and four more birdies in his final round to move up into sixth on the individual leaderboard at 3 over par.
Daniel Marmorstein was close behind as he opened the tournament with a 2-over 73 before adding a 5 over in the second round. He saved his best for last as he too shot on eagle on 15 to go with two birdies in his final round as he posted a 1-under 70 to move up 13 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for ninth 6 over par.
Carson Sorci had a similar tournament to Marmorstein opening with a 73 before a 7-over 78 dropped him behind several competitors in the second round. Sorci brought his best on the final day equaling Marmorstein with a 1-under 70 on the back of four birdies and 11 pars to move up 12 spots into a tie for 17th.
Jerred Scott started well as two birdies near the end of his first round pushed him to an even par 71, but rounds of 85 and 82 dropped him into 43rd overall at 25 over par. Josephy Berggren wrapped up the team competitors as he finished two strokes behind Scott in 44th after rounds of 75, 75 and 90.
Jack Gladys and
Carter Degelman competed as individuals at the tournament with Gladys finish 34th at 15 over par and Degelman was 37th at 18 over.
Dominican will return to the course Sunday as it takes on Jessup at Grizzly Ranch Golf Club.
