DOWNEY, Calif. – Dominican women's golf finished 11th at the LA Spring Kickoff on Tuesday at Rio Hondo Golf Club.
No. 7 Cal State San Marcos won the team championship finishing at 22 over par with No. 29 Cal State Los Angeles finishing second at 25 over. The Penguins fell one stroke short of the top-10 as it finished at 71 over par with Hawai'i Pacific at 70 over.
Ellexis Mingming led Dominican among individuals with a top-10 finish on the individual board. She was fantastic on the back nine of her first round with three bridies to finish even par on the stretch and enter the clubhouse with a 2-over 73. In the final round Tuesday, Mingming found a groove on the front nine shooting three birdies on her way to a 75 on the day to finish at six over par to tie for seventh, six strokes behind Tilda Kvarnrud of CSUMB who took home the individual championship.
Faith Guevara finished her tournament with six birdies as she posted rounds of 76 and 79 to finish tied for 34th overall at 13 over par.
Madi Whitney and
Angelika Stevens each saw improvement round-over-round Tuesday. Whitney ended the first day with an 84 before shaving a stroke off her second-round score to finish 71st overall. Stevens meanwhile got off to a slow start with an 89 before making a five stroke improvement in the second round to move up three spots on the individual board to finish 80th at 31 over.
Delilah Saur rounded out the Penguins' team with a 35 over par to tie for 84th overall.
Dominican will have a week off before heading to the East Bay to compete at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout beginning Monday, February 24 at Corica Park Golf Course in Alameda.
