AMARILLO, Texas – Ellexis Minming became the first golfer since
Claire Shubin to represent Dominican women's golf at the NCAA Division II West Regional held this season at Tascosa Golf Club.
Mingming braved what was often turbulent weather to put together a solid 54-hole score of 13 over par to finish tied for 38th in the field of 103 golfers. After a lengthy delay to tee times on the first day, Mingming got off to a strong start starting on the back nine with a birdie and six pars to make the turn at 1 over. She slowed some to finish the round with an 80 meeting the average of the entire field for the day.
Mingming and the rest of the field sat idle on Tuesday after having the round delayed and then canceled due to a significant and unsuspected rainstorm. With only one day of competition left, the tournament finished with 36 holes on Wednesday and Mingming stepped up to the challenge magnificently. Mingming began her second round with eight-straight pars and added a birdie late in her round to begin her climb up the leaderboard with a 3-over 74. After a brief break to regroup she returned to the eighth hole where she finished her previous round and sank another putt for par to being her third round.
Mingming answered two bogeys early on the back nine with birdies on 16 and 18 to end the stretch at even par. Mingming then played par golf on all but one of her remaining seven holes to jump 10 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 38th, surpassing four golfers ranked in the top-150 nationally in the final round of play.
