Mingming, so nice you say it twice

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Ellexis Mingming moved up seven spots in her final round to tie for second while Dominican women's golf finished fourth Wednesday in the PacWest Women's Golf Championships at Aliante Golf Club.

No. 30 Biola looked every bit of its national rank as it won the tournament at 16 over, 20 strokes ahead of Hawai'i Pacific in second place. The Penguins were remarkably consistent as a team posting three straight rounds of 305 and ended seven strokes behind Academy of Art.

Mingming started strong as she became one of only three players in the tournament to register an eagle hers coming on the par-5 11th hole as she closed out with a 34 on the back nine to finish the round at 1 over par. Mingming started strong with five pars and two birdies on her front nine, but a rough finish saw her enter the clubhouse with a 75 in ninth place. Mingming shook off the rough closing of round two and was brilliant on the final day bookending her day with a pair of bridies with two more in between as she tied for the lowest round of the day with a 1-under 71. Her final birdie of the day pushed her final two spots into a three-way tie for second at three over, one stroke behind individual medalist Karis Haltom of Biola.

Angelica Antionio remained a consistent presence for the Penguins with her worst round being a 4-over 76 to open. Antonio had two birdies and 12 pars in her second round as she began a climb up the leaderboard with a 2-over 74 before adding a final round of 3-over 75. She moved up five spots over the final two days, tying for 12th overall at 9 over and a stroke behind 10th place. Faith Guevara had a similar tournament beginning with a 77 before making up strokes each day with a 76 on day two and finishing with a 74 to move up eight spots into a tie for 14th at 11 over par.

Madi Whitney had a strong start to her first conference championship as a Penguin posting a 7-over 79 with 11 pars on the day. She added an 80 in round two with an 85 in her final round to place 39th. Angelika Stevens had rounds of 84, 87 and 88 to round out the Dominican team as she placed 47th overall.
