SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Dominican women's golf caught fire in the final round of the Sonoma State Spring Invitational as they moved up three spots to finish sixth Tuesday afternoon at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.
No. 28 Cal State LA won the team title at 28 over par with Menlo 10 strokes back in second. The Penguins tied the Golden Eagles for the best round on Tuesday as it moved up from a tie for ninth into sixth overall at 49 over to top Westmont, Jessup and Vanguard of the PacWest.
Ellexis Mingming was fantastic over her final 27-holes of the tournament, posting a 1 under on the back nine of her first round and following with a 2-under 70 in the final round moving up 20 spots. Mingming finished at four over to tie for third with three other golfers from Cal State LA and Simon Fraser.
Angelica Antonio saw the course for the first time in the spring and got off to an atypically slow start with an 81. Antonio quickly rounded into form shooting a 3-over 75 in the second round to move up 19 spots into a tie for 18th as she approaches the final PacWest Championships of her career.
Faith Guevara was the strongest golfer in the first round for Dominican as she had 16 pars in her opening round to finish at 2 over and followed up with a six over to tie for 11th at eight over.
Madi Whitney posted rounds of 86 and 83 to finish 51st at 25 over while
Angelika Stevens shot an 88 and an 89 to take 58th at 33 over.
Dominican will have a week of rest before it turns its attention to preparing for the PacWest Championships in North Las Vegas, Nevada, at Aliante Golf Club beginning Monday, April 21.
