Penguins finish 13th at Fujikura Invitational

VISTA, Calif. – Dominican men's golf started strong but faded late to finish 13th at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational to open its Spring season.
 
St. Mary's (TX) won the team championship after finishing at 11 under par including a final round of 6-under 282. Cal State San Marcos finished second at five over while holding off a late surge from Simon Fraser who placed third at 9 over. The Penguins finished with an 81 over par after finishing the 54-hole tournament.
 
Mason Mancasola had an impressive first round as he had three birdies and 12 pars on his way to tie for 15th at the end of round with an even par 72. Daniel Marmorstein was just a stroke behind him in a tie for 22nd individually after he produced four birdies and 11 pars over his first 18 holes. The duo stayed close in the next two rounds as Mancasola posted a 78 and Marmorstein a 79 before both finished with an 81 on Tuesday's final round. When all was said and done, Mancasola tied for 47th with Marmorstein two strokes behind in a tie for 56th to lead the Dominican squad.
 
Jerred Scott tied with Mancasola for the Penguins' best score of the second round at 6-over 78 to go with rounds of 79 and 83 as he finished 63rd on the individual leader board. Joe Berggren was consistent with rounds of 81, 80 and 82 to tie for 65th overall, while Carter Degelman had scores of 80, 79 and 87 to tie for 68th overall.
 
Dominican will have several weeks to prepare for the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout where it will tee off Monday, March 10 at Corica Park Golf Course.
