Penguins finish 10th at Bishop Inviational

DUPONT, Wash. – Dominican men's golf tied for 10th after it final round Friday at the 2024 Bishop Invitational at The Home Course.

Cal State East Bay won a drop-score playoff to win the team championship at 6 under after finishing the 54-hole tournament tied with Colorado Mesa. The Penguins were at 25 over par tied with Westminster and Saint Martin's, while finishing ahead of PacWest foes Academy of Art and Hawai'i Pacific.

Dominican was led by sophomore Jerred Scott who got off to a strong start as he shot a 2 under on the back nine of his first round with four biridies. He finished the round at 1-under 71 before turning around putting a solid front nine at 1 under on his way to shooting a 74. He added a final round of 4-over 76 to tie for 37th on the individual board at 5 over par.

Freshman Carter Degelman. Was consistent throughout the tournament shooting rounds of 74, 75 and 74 on his way to tying for 42nd overall at 7 over par. After a hot start to his season, Daniel Marmorstein faced adversity in his opening round shooting a 6 over, but bounced back going 2 under on the front nine of his second round to gain some momentum. He ended the day at 1 over before concluding his tournament with a 3 over to tie for 54th at 10 over par. 

Right there with him was sophomore Carter Bell who was within a stroke of Marmorstein all tournament also shooting a 78 in round one before turning around and having a team best even par 72 in his second round with an eagle on hole 16. Bell concluded with a 76 to finish at 10 over par. Joe Berggren shook off an 85 in his opening round with four birdies in the second round on his way to a 1-over 73. He saved his best for last entering the clubhouse with a  1-under 71 in the final round as he had six birdies and two birdies down the stretch to jump into a tie for 66th at 13 over par.

Dominican will head south next as it participates in the Westmont Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta, California, beginning Monday, October 7.
