DUPONT, Wash. – Dominican women's golf opened its 2023-24 season with a fifth place finish Tuesday at the SMU Women's Fall Invitational at The Home Course.
George Fox took home the team title with a 21 over par, narrowly edging Northwest Nazarene who finished second with a 22 over. The Penguins finished with a 41 over par to beat out Western Washington by two strokes and Hawai'i Hilo by three strokes in the field of 11 schools.
Claire Shubin led the Penguins at the tournament as she posted rounds of 2-over 74 and 3-over 75 to finish tied for seventh overall. Makensie Toole of George Fox won the individual championship going even par for the tournament with rounds of 73 and 71.
Angelica Antonio was close behind Shubin as she followed a first round of 5 over with the best round of any Dominican golfer at the tournament with a 1-over 73. Antonio tied for 12th on the individual leaderboard with a 6 over par for the tournament.
Faith Guevara finished tied for 33rd with rounds of 80 and 78 to finish with a 14 over par, while
Sophia Soto and
Lauren Parayno tied for 40th at 18 over par.
Dominican will head next to the Wasatch Invitational, a 54-hole tournament hosted by Westminster. Teams will begin teeing off Sunday at Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, Utah.
