FINAL RESULTS

SAN DIEGO —  Led by Kari Young, each member of the Dominican University of California women's golf team improved her score on Tuesday from Monday in the final round of the Super San Diego Championship hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University at the par-72 Riverwalk Golf Course.

Young, the Penguins' senior captain, fired an 86, six strokes better than Monday, to finish with a two-day total of 178, which tied her for 61st place in the 105-player field.

Freshman Kimberly Harris had the biggest jump in score. Her 149 (+77) on Tuesday was nine strokes lower than her first round. Fellow freshmen Victoria Grajeda (103, +31) and Miranda Zulueta (105, +33) also improved their play. Teammate Noelle Mathew , a sophomore, had to withdraw because of an illness.

“The team struggled with the fast, hilly greens, but their attitude was amazing,” said Head Coach Gary Nelson. “If they keep the same attitude throughout the rest of the season, every player will improve. I attribute their improvement on second round to their attitude.”

Dominican placed 19th in its season-opening event with a team score of 422-443 for 865 in the field featuring 22 programs, 19 of which competed as teams.

NCAA Division I Cal Poly won the two-day event with a 321-313 for 634. Its top two players, Laura Howard and Asia Adell, finished in a tie for medalist honors. Both carded a 12-over-par two-day total of 156. Howard defeated Adell on the second hole of a playoff.
