Penguins place first in final tune-up before conference

CHICO, Calif.- Dominican women's golf competed in the Chico State Invitational the last couple of days and ran the table finishing on top at the Butte Creek Country Club. Ellexis Mingming, the junior captain, led the way for the Pengs finishing the tournament tied for fifth.

The Walnut Creek native flashed her consistency during the past two days posting a 78 each day to go along a total of 14 pars. Avery Kraatz, the sophomore out of Utah was right behind Mingming posting a tied for seventh-place finish boosted by a round of 75 on Tuesday. The person she tied with, fellow Penguin Faith Guevara. Guevara, the Covina native, finished the tourney posting two birdies and eight pars.

The black and gold were able to win the Chico State Invitational thanks to four players finishing inside the top 10. Cristen Faith Legaspi, the junior out of Cypress, rounded out the top 10 scorers for the Pengs aided by a round of 76 on Tuesday. Legaspi was the team leader posting three birdies. Madi Whitney finished tied for 15th as she collected 10 pars. 

Dominican will now head to the PacWest conference tournament which starts April 20th in Las Vegas.
