Dominican track and field split its weekend among the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto and the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, with the Penguins posting four confirmed personal bests and several strong efforts against deep fields on April 3-4.
Adrian Aguirre led Dominican's sprint and hurdle group with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at Stanford, crossing in 14.23 seconds on Saturday after qualifying with a 14.93 on Friday.
Jalydon Love added a 22.05 in the 200 and a 48.77 in the 400 at Stanford among some of the best athletes in the country before returning to clock a 48.54 in the 400 at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on Saturday for a fifth-place finish.
LaNicia Ellis also competed at Stanford and ran 57.45 in the 400 as she went neck and neck with Amelie Fairclough of Hawai'i in a photo finish that Fairclough took by 0.0001 seconds. Ellis improved her time at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational coming in fourth with a time of 56.60.
Dominican's distance group turned in a full slate of performances at Mike Fanelli. In Friday's 5,000 meters, Robert Dawson posted a 14:56.96 and Louigi Etta followed in 15:50.83.
Sarah Chavez then turned in a personal-best 4:51.34 in the 1,500 meters.
On Saturday, Chavez came back to run a personal-best and program record with a 2:17.45 in the 800 meters. She finished 0.10 seconds behind Averie Peterson of Saint Mary's, who won their section in 2:17.35.
Tatyana Robles followed with a 2:19.52, a new personal best for her, and was separated by just 0.02 seconds from Genevieve Tamondong of Cal State East Bay at 2:19.50.
Aidan Gerdeman also posted a personal best in the men's 800 at 2:01.18.
Ishaan Iyer added another personal best for the Penguins with a 5:14.64 in the mile.
Dominican's next competition is the Chico Twilight Invitational and Distance Carnival on April 10-11 in Chico, California.
