LONG BEACH/AZUSA, Calif.- Dominican men's and women's track and field were scattered throughout Southern California over the weekend as they competed in the last couple of events before conference championships begin April 23
rd down in San Diego.
Adrian Aguirre, the senior leader out of Pittsburg, kicked off the weekend as he competed in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Invite hosted by Long Beach State University. Aguirre finished in the top five of the men's 110-meter hurdles placing in 4
th place with a time of 14.00 flat. This heat consisted of athletes form Division I and II.
LaNicia Ellis and
Jalydon Love, both seniors, competed in the 200m and 400m dash at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University Friday night. Both broke personal records as well. Ellis, the Stockton native, placed in the top five of both her events. She earned fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.63 while posting a third-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 57.77.
Love, the Petaluma native, brought home the victory in the 400m dash leaving everybody in the dust with a time of 48.17. He would then have another dominating showing in the 200m dash finishing third overall with a time of 21.53.
Aguirre would finish his weekend competing in the Mt. SAC Elite Invitational Saturday afternoon running in the 110m hurdles. This event consisted of the top athletes from all around the country. Aguirre was able to post a score of 14.17 placing him 18
th which was ahead of athletes from powerhouse universities such as Arizona and UCLA.
Ellis finished the weekend competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific. She went up against 85 other athletes in the 200m dash and posted a time of 24.88 and finished her day in the 400m dash getting 39
th.
