Louie Etta participates in the 3000m steeplechase at the Sunbird Invitational

Penguins test their mettle against strong field at West Coast Relays

CLOVIS, Calif. - Dominican track and field turned in a strong showing across both the men's and women's competitions at the Fresno State West Coast Relays on Friday and Saturday, highlighted by top-10 finishes from Jalydon Love, Omari Davis, LaNicia Ellis, Louie Etta and Adrian Aguirre.

In the sprint events, Love led the Penguins by finishing fifth in the men's 400 dash with a time of 48.62 in a field of 44 sprinters at the event. Ellis also posted a top-10 result for Dominican in the women's 400 as she also finished fifth with a time of 56.74, second amongst NCAA Division II competitors, in the field of 24 sprinters.

Dominican also produced a pair of strong hurdling efforts. Adrian Aguirre placed third in the men's 110 hurdles just .03 seconds behind San Jose State's Julius Baker with a time of 14.41, the top time among all D2 competitors. Ryan Nair made history as the first Dominican woman to race in 400 hurdles and 20th overall with a time of 1:12.99.

Etta continued his strong start to his Penguin career as he shaved 20 seconds off his own school record in the 3000m steeplechase as he finished seventh with a time of 10:22.50. Davis also finished seventh in the men's long jump as his mark of 6.98m was third among competitors out of NCAA Division II. 

Dominican returns to action next weekend with athletes spread across the Stanford Invitational on April 3-4 in Stanford, the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on April 3 in San Francisco, and the Brutus Hamilton Invitational on April 4 in Berkeley.
