Whitney, Kraatz Lead Penguins to Tie for Third at RCA Electric Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. – Madi Whitney and Avery Kraatz each earned top-10 finishes while Dominican women's golf tied for third Tuesday at the RCA Electric Invitational at the par-71 Pasadera.

Westmont captured the team championship at 34 over after rounds of 307 and 295, finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Oregon Tech at 46 over. Dominican carded rounds of 310 and 311 to finish at 53 over and tied PacWest foe Hawai'i Pacific for third in the seven-team field.

Whitney and Kraatz shared eighth place at 11 over, giving Dominican two golfers inside the top 10. Whitney opened the tournament with a 3-over 74, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 seventh. After a bogey on No. 3, Whitney played the next nine holes at 2 under and made the turn Monday at 1 under before finishing with a 74. She followed with a 79 in the final round, adding a birdie on the par-5 12th. Kraatz saved her best stretch for the final nine holes Tuesday. After making the turn at 5 over for the round, she birdied the par-5 10th and followed with seven consecutive pars through No. 17. Even with a bogey at the last, Kraatz played the back nine at even-par 36 to close with a 5-over 76, one stroke better than her opening round.

Faith Guevara finished just one stroke behind her teammates, tying for 11th at 12 over. Guevara improved two strokes Tuesday with a 5-over 76 after opening with a 78. She also played the final nine at even par, making birdie on the par-3 11th and responding to her only back-nine bogey with four consecutive pars to close the tournament. Elle Astete rebounded from a difficult opening nine Monday by playing the back side in just 2 over, making seven pars over the final nine holes. She carried that momentum into Tuesday with a 2-over 37 on the front nine, highlighted by a birdie on No. 2. Astete finished 21st at 19 over after rounds of 81 and 80. Jacie Johnson started Tuesday with a birdie on the par-5 first and followed with consecutive pars to play her opening three holes at 1 under. She added another birdie on the par-4 13th on the way to an 87 on her way to finish 33rd at 35 over.

Dominican will continue its fall schedule Monday as it heads south for the Westmont Invitational at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
