ROCKLIN, Calif. – Dominican cross country claimed two first place finishes in a tri-meet with Jessup and Simpson on Saturday morning at the Jessup Cross Country Course. Both the men and women finished with 24 points to top the three teams, with Jessup finishing second in the women's three mile race with 33 points and Simpson claiming second place with 46 points in the men's 4 mile race.
Rob Dawson paced the Penguin men as he claimed first place overall for the first time as a Penguin with a time of 22:05.5 while
Diego Montag was close behind him in second place in a time of 22:23.20. Freshman Emmanuel Hurley crossed the finish linein fourth place with a time of 23:58.50 to make it three top-five finishers for Dominican.
The Penguins continued to roll as
Aidan Gerdeman, Diego Alas and
Javier Machado rounded out the top-10 as Dominican locked in one of its lowest team scores during the NCAA Division II era. There was 10 seconds between the trio as Gerdeman led the small pack with a time of 24:56.50 followed by Alas with a time of 25:06.70 and Machado crossing the line in 25:16.50.
On the women's side
Bella Bueno led Dominican with a second place finish as she finished 25 seconds behind Angela Gladysh of Jessup with Bueno finishing with a time of 19:18.50. The Warriors' Juliet David was 42 seconds behind Bueno, but it was all Dominican from there.
Sarah Chavez led a pack of three Penguins placing fourth with a time of 20:54.80 with
Tatyana Robles fifth with a time of 22:06.00 and
Sienna Fassett in sixth with a time of 22:29.80.
Karsyn Walton gave Dominican a fifth finisher in the top-10 with a time of 23:26.50 to finish eighth and secure the dominating win.
Dominican will race next at the Pacific Invite on Friday at Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi, California.
