SAN FRANCISCO - Dominican cross country opened the 2026 season Friday against a largely NCAA Division I field at the USF Invitational, with the women placing two runners in the Penguins' 6K top 10 and the men finishing ahead of a PacWest opponent at Golden Gate Park.

CBU won the men's 8K with 33 points, while host San Francisco claimed the women's 6K title with 41 points. The Dominican men finished 16th with 518 points, placing ahead of PacWest foe Jessup, which finished 17th with 543 points. The Dominican women had four runners finish the 6K and did not record a team score.

Jessica Carvalho led the way for the Dominican women, finishing 113th in 24:31.8 to move into sixth on the program's 6K record list. Tatyana Robles followed in 117th at 24:48.7, climbing to 10th in program history while taking more than 1 minute, 45 seconds off her previous 6K best.

Sarah Chavez was third across the line for the Penguins in 25:12.5 (127th), finishing just 1.1 seconds off her personal record and No. 13 mark in program history. Ashlyn Ennis rounded out the Dominican finishers in 28:47.0 and had the strongest closing move for the Penguins, moving up 13 spots from 150th at the 2K split to 137th at the finish. Robles also made steady progress through the field, gaining 12 spots over the final 4K.

Diego Montag paced the Dominican men, finishing 152nd in 27:20.7. Louigi Etta followed in 28:09.7 (163rd), while Dario Rodriguez crossed third for the Penguins in 28:50.1 (168th) to move into 19th on Dominican's 8K record list.

Diego Alas and Emanuel Hurley completed the scoring five for Dominican, with Alas finishing in 29:13.1 and Hurley crossing in 29:41.0 (179th). Alas made the biggest move among the Dominican men, climbing 17 spots from 191st at the 2K split to 174th at the finish. Jeroam Wood-Piña added a 29:47.1 finish, while Ishaan Iyer crossed in 30:45.7 for the Penguins.

Dominican will next head to Ceres for the Kim Duyst Twilight on Sept. 12 at River Oaks Golf Course.
