AZUSA, Calif. – A handful of athletes from Dominican men's track and field competed at the Franson Last Chance meet hosted by Azusa Pacific hoping to qualify for the the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Wakilli Bennett entered in a solid position in the 100m dash and took one last stab at improving his personal best as he finished fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 10.39 on the first day of competition. He then added an eighth place finish in the 200m with a time of 21.33 but cramping forced him out of action in the 100m finals.
Adrian Taylor returned from an injury in the PacWest Championships and took to the track looking to meet the provisional mark in the 400m but his finish of 50.02 was short of his season best.
Logan McNamar also failed to best his personal record in the 10,000 meter as he placed 14th with a time of 30:48.54.
Adrian Aguirre has met his provisional mark but was looking to shave a bit of time off of his 110m hurdle finish to put himself in a better position but for the first time all season, Aguirre did not finish as the top runner in the event ending 12th with a time of 14.50.
In the field events,
Omari Davis finished with his best mark of the season as his second jump saw him soar 7.15 meters, just half a meter shy of his personal best set last season.
Andrew Reinhard claimed a sixth place finish in the javelin as his fifth throw of the meet traveled 51.58 meters, but failed to improve his season best mark.
Having met their provisional marks, Bennett and Aguirre will await announcement of official qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Championships on Tuesday.
