EUGENE, Ore. –
Wakilli Bennett led Dominican track and field as it competed in the Oregon Preview at Hayward Field.
Bennett highlighted the event in a historic stadium as he sprinted past the field in the 100m dash winning with a time of 10.52 topping runners from Oregon and Eastern Washington by over a tenth of a second. He added to his impressive meet by taking third among collegiate competitors in the 200m with a time of 21.54 to beat the Ducks' Caleb Hagan for the podium finish with Hagan finishing in 21.57.
Adrian Taylor set a new personal best in the 200m crossing the line in 22.44 to place 16th overall. Taylor also raced in the 400m narrowly missing a top-10 finish as he crossed the finish line in 11th with a time of 49.88.
Caytlin Capulong opened the meet for the Penguins on Friday as she competed in the javelin finishing 12th with a throw of 28.55m to top athletes from Seattle and Oregon.
LaNicia Ellis narrowly missed a new personal best in the 400m on Saturday as she placed 14th overall with a time of 1:01.05 to top Makenze Knowles of Northwest Nazarene and a pair of runners from Seattle.
Bella Bueno added a 23rd place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:27.48, besting competitors from Cal Poly Humboldt and Northwest Nazarene in her heat.
Dominican will compete next at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
