VISTA, Calif. – Dominican men's golf finished 12th to open its Spring season at the CSUSM Fujikura Classic at Shadowridge Country Club.
No. 34 Cal State San Marcos won the tournament at 9 over par in a field that featured nine ranked teams. No. 14 Colorado State Pueblo finished second at 11 over par coming short on its comeback attempt. The Penguins finished with a team score of 80 over par.
Josh Morris led Dominican in the tournament behind a strong second round as he had four birdies over six holes as he made the turn halfway through as he went on to shoot an even par 72. Morris finished the tournament tied for 30th at 10 over par.
Sam Nielsen finished his 54-holes with 11 birdies, tied for sixth most in the field of 69 golfers, as he shot rounds of 77, 77 and 76 on his way to finishing 45th with a score of 14 over par.
Elliott Nielsen saved his best for last with 11 pars in his final round of 6-over 78 on his way to a 61st place finish with a 24 over par for the tournament.
Sean Buckles finished in 66th at 34 over par, while
Derek Hamilton rounded out the team with a 37 over par to finish in 67th.
Dominican will return to the course Monday, March 14 at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay at Corica Park Golf Course in Alameda.
