Litchfield Park, Arizona – Dominican University of California's
Claire Shubin captured Dominican's second ever conference title, individual or team, in its NCAA Division II era, winning the women's bracket by a single stroke over 3-time defending champion Anahi Servin of the Academy of Art.
Shubin came into the final day of competition as the leader, carrying a one stroke lead over Servin who captured the last three PacWest Championship individual title at the same event. After a strong start to the day that saw her birdie the first hole, Shubin notched four consecutive pars before tallying another birdie on six. Shubin went on to par the next nine holes before a trio of bogey's made for a dramatic finish. Both Shubin and Servin shot a +1 on the final day.
Biola and Dominican came into the day separated by just a stroke, and the entirety of the final round was spent with the two clubs trading the lead. Biola eventually gained traction near the end of the round, shooting a combined +21 on the day to combat Dominican's +25. The two teams finished within three strokes of one another as the next closest team, Holy Names, was 11 strokes back of the Penguins.
Sophomore
Angelica Antonio finished the tournament in third at +10 while going +4 on the final day of competition, with sophomore
Lauren Parayno in 15
th at +23 after posting a +8 on the final day. Sophomore
Phoebe Sundberg rounded out the four golfer that posted scores on the final day with a +12, finishing at +39 overall.
Shubin joins 2014 Dominican men's golfer Pomi Milton as the only individuals to win a PacWest championship since Dominican joined the PacWest in 2009.
