LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. –
Josh Morris was brilliant throughout the second round of the PacWest Golf Championships to help Dominican men's golf climb into second place at Wigwam Golf Course.
Hawaii Pacific held the team lead at 18 over par behind individual leader Keita Okada with a two round total of 4 under par. The Penguins were four strokes behind the Sharks at 22 over par with Holy Names in third at 25 over par.
Morris began his day with a birdie on the par five opening hole, a foreshadowing of the type of round he would have. After four straight pars, Morris birdied hole nine to make the turn at 2 under par as he continued to continue his climb up the leaderboard. Morris had a bogey on 11 but followed up with two birdies and five pars to end his round with a 3-under 69. His round tied Okada and Ryan Shields Vega of Chaminade for the lowest round of the tournament after 36 holes as he climbed 17 spots into a tie for sixth at 4 over par.
Matt Fry also had a very strong day as he had three birdies on his front nine before the highlight of the day with an eagle on a par 4 on the back nine to end the round in third at 2 over par.
Christian Schrodt had 13 pars in a round of 5-over 77 to give Dominican three golfers in the top-10 as he tied for eighth at 5 over par.
Benjamin Gould entered the clubhouse tied for 18th at 11 over par after a 79 and
Sam Nielsen rounded out the team tied for 28th at 18 over par after shooting an 82 on the day.
The Penguins will tee off their final round at 9:50 a.m. MST at Wigwam Golf Course.
