Litchfield Park, AZ — Dominican University of California men's golf finds itself sitting in third place at +11, six strokes back of the lead, after day one of the PacWest Championship.

Christian Schrodt and Graduate Student
Matt Fry led the way for the Penguins after day one, both sitting tied for sixth place at even par. Schrodt started the day shooting +1 on the front nine, but two birdies on the first three holes of the back nine flipped the script on his day. He would bury another birdie before the end of the round, eventually going into the clubhouse at an even 72. Fry's day jumped out to an incredibly ideal start as he welcomed the tournament in with a birdie on the first hole, but eventually sat at +1 going into the back nine. Birdies on holes 15 and 17 brought him back near the top of the leader board as he too exited the course with a day one total of 72.
Ben Gould sits tied for 12
th after day one with a +4 on the day, while
Josh Morris and
Sam Nielsen sit tied for 23
rd and 26
th, respectively, with first round scores of +7 and +8. Hawaii Hilo topped the team leader board on day one shooting a combined +5 with Hawaii Pacific hot on its heels at +7. Dominican rounds out the top three at +11 while the Academy of Art, Holy Names and Chaminade finished at +13, +15 and +21, respectively.
