Penguins tied for 13th after first day of Pioneer Shootout

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Christian Schrodt once again found his stroke as he led Dominican men's golf to a 13th place finish after the first two rounds of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course.

Cal State Monterey Bay led all teams at 14 under par while Cal State East Bay finished the day in second at 7 under par. The Penguins finished their first 36 holes at 25 over par to tie with Northwest Nazarene, six strokes behind Hawaii Pacific in 12th and four strokes ahead of Academy of Art and Regis in 15th.

Schrodt started the round on fire with back-to-back birdies on his opening holes of round one on his way to a 1-under 71 in the opening round. He continued to roll in the second round as he once again birdied the first hole on his way to duplicating his first round score and finish the day tied for 13th at 2 under par and six strokes behind Ananjan Kaushik who finished the day in first.

Josh Morris continued his strong play for Dominican as he posted back-to-back rounds of 3-over 75 to finish the day tied for 60th at 6 over par. Matt Fry also had identical scores in both rounds as he finished both with a 5-over 77 to stand at 78th on the leaderboard at 10 over for the day.

After a slow start, Christopher Steib settled in to post a 1 over on the back nine of his first round before finishing with a 76 in the second round for the Penguins to finish his day tied for 79th at 11 over par. Sam Nielsen rounded out the active squad as he finished at 16 over par to tie for 92nd. Benjamin Gould competed as an individual and tied for 67th at 8 over par.

Dominican will tee off for the final round of the tournament Tuesday at 8:20 a.m. at Corica Park Golf Course.
