GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Dominican women's golf made big moves on the final day of competition finishing seventh in the field of 19 teams at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella on Tuesday at Golf Club of Estrella.
Cal State San Marcos won the tournament with a 22 over par while Embry Riddle came in second at 28 over par. The Penguins were the top finisher among PacWest programs, passing Point Loma Nazarene University in the final round of play by two strokes at 45 over par.
"We had a great round today," head coach
Gary Nelson said. "The team came together under a common goal. I'm really proud of how they fought hard and played for each other. Each player overcame something today and that resilience is all you can ask for as a coach. We are going to enjoy the success of this last round."
Junior
Claire Shubin moved up 16 spots on the individual board after a final round of even-par 72 to tie for 10th at 5 over after at 5 over. Sophomore
Angelica Antonio also made a big move in the final round, shooting a 4-over 76 to improve 11 spots on the individual board and tie for 29th overall at 11 over par.
Sophomore
Phoebe Sundberg had consecutive rounds of 79 to finish at 14 over par and tie for 42nd on the individual board. Sophomore
Lauren Parayno improved her individual ranking by three spots to tie for 58th at 17 over par after a final round of 8-over 80. Junior
Ashley Pan rounded out the team with a final round of 6-over 78 to move up 14 spots into a tie for 72nd at 20 over par.
Dominican will conclude its fall schedule at the Sonoma State Women's Golf Invitational beginning Monday at Valley of the Moon Club.
