SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Dominican women's golf finished fifth Tuesday at Birdie Fest hosted at Peacock Gap Golf Club.
Academy of Art won the tournament at 15 over par with Sonoma State close behind at 17 over. The Penguins were finished at 27 over par, five strokes behind third-place Holy Names and 27 strokes ahead of Chico State in sixth.
Junior
Claire Shubin and sophomore
Angelica Antonio each opened the tournament strong with rounds of 1-over 72. Both players had equally strong finishes to the first round with a birdie and 11 pars on the final 12 holes. Shubin followed up with a 4-over 75 Tuesday to finish eighth at 5 over par. Antonio added a 7-over 78 to tie for 12th at 8 over par.
Sophomore
Lauren Parayno had the best finish for the Penguins as she had five birdies in the final round, including three straight to close the front-9. She ended the day with a 1-over 72 to tie for 15th at 9 over par. Junior
Ashley Pan was tied with Parayno at 9 over after finishing the tournament with five birdies. Sophomore
Phoebe Sundberg also had a strong finish to her tournament, shooting 3-over 74 including an eagle on the par-5 fourth hole. Sundberg tied for 22nd at 11 over par.
Sophomore
Crystal Yi led all the individual competitors from Dominican tied for 18th at 10 over par, while junior
Alissa Salazar was tied for 31st at 15 over. Sophomore
Kelsey Bas took 35th after shooting a 22 over par with senior
Sydney Banas rounding out the group with a 26 over to take 38th on the individual board.
Dominican will head next to Goodyear, Arizona, for the Shootout at Estrella beginning Monday at the Golf Club of Estrella.
