CORNING, Calif. – Dominican men's golf overcame windy conditions to finish 7th Tuesday at the Chico State Wildcat Classic at The Links at Rolling Hills.
Stanislaus State won the tournament at 21 over par, while Western Washington came in second at 30 over par. The Penguins were two strokes back of the top five as they finished with a 51 over par to edge out Holy Names who finished eighth at 54 over.
All teams struggled on the first day of competition as winds reached over 30 miles per hour causing the tournament to cancel the second round. Junior transfer
Christian Schrodt proved one of the best in the field at handling the inclement weather as he finished with a birdie and 11 pars in the first round to tie for fifth overall at 5 over. He maintained his consistency in the final round shooting a 6 over par as he finished with a birdie and two pars on his final three holes to tie for 15th at 11 over par.

Christopher Steib had one of the best rounds on the second day of play as he finished with 2-over 74 to move up 10 spots on the individual board into 19th. Senior
Matt Fry had a strong first round, finishing tied for 13th at 7 over par and then overcame a slow start on the second day with four pars and a birdie on his final five holes. Junior
Elliott Nielsen improved his score by one stroke in the final round with 11 pars and a birdie as he tied for 26th with Fry at 15 over par.

Derek Hamilton rounded out the active team as he tied for the second-best score for Dominican in the final round with a 6-over 78 finishing the day with a team-best three birdies. Hamilton ended the tournament tied for 54th at 25 over par. Freshman
Arjun Rana competed as an individual and finished with rounds of 84 and 83 to tie for 50th overall at 23 over par.
The Penguins will conclude the fall portion of their schedule at the Otter Invitational at Bayonet Golf Course in a 36-hole tournament beginning Monday.
