Drew Nelson has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District
TM 8 At-Large First Team. The team was announced on Thursday.
The awards recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District
TM teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Nelson helped lead the Penguins to a second consecutive NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional team appearance and his third career appearance, where they finished 12th this season, and to a third-place finish at the PacWest Championships. At the Regional, Nelson finished in 38th place out of 108 golfers at five-over 221 strokes. His four-over 220 (75-72-73) tied him for fifth at the PacWest Championships. The Salinas, California native shot no higher than a 78 all season and had four Top 10 finishes. He fired his lowest round of the season, a 68, in the first round of the Mustang Intercollegiate. He was also named to the All-PacWest Team for third time, this season garnering Second Team honors.
