Four men's golfers named All-PacWest, Nelson named Coach of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. — Dominican University of California led the way with four All-PacWest men's golf selections while Head Coach Gary Nelson has been named PacWest Coach of the Year.

Senior Forbes Collins II and sophomore Drew Nelson were named to the All-PacWest First Team while freshman Ty Macias and junior Pomi Milton were named to the All-PacWest Second Team.

Collins posted a 74.72 scoring average in his senior campaign. The Lake Forest, California native led the Penguins throughout much of the year and was named PacWest Player of the Week after his second-place finish out of 93 players at the NDNU Invitational. He followed that up with a third-place tie at the 83-player CBU Invitational. At the PacWest Championships, Collins led all players with two eagles and added eight birdies in an 11th-place tie. He recorded an eagle in his final hole at the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regionals.

Last year's PacWest Freshman of the Year, Drew Nelson avoided the sophomore slump with a 75.76 scoring average in 2015. He led at one point and eventually tied for seventh place at PacWest Championships.
His highest finish of the season came in Colorado at at the RMAC #1, where he finished tied for third place.

Macias posted a 75.65 scoring average in his freshman campaign. He served notice with a sixth-place finish at the PacWest Championships, where he a shot a one-under 71 in the second round. He did one better in the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional, where he flirted with first place. He led after the first round and regained the lead after his final front nine, though he settled for a sixth-place tie in the 108-player field.

Milton posted a 75.17 scoring average as a junior. The Mililani, Hawaii native led at one point and finished tied for second place at PacWest Championships and tied for 10th at the Sonoma State Invitational.

Gary Nelson became the first Dominican head coach to guide his or her team to an NCAA Division II regional appearance with the 2015 men's golf, where the Penguins narrowly missed a national tournament bid by six strokes. Nelson guided the Penguins to a second-place finish at the PacWest Championships, where Dominican lost by a single stroke to host Dixie State. Nelson was also named Dominican's 2014-15 Coach of the Year.
