SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to No. 11 Fresno Pacific University on Monday at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center in the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.

Monday's outcome, and Dominican's 6-10 overall mark, is not indicative of how well the Lady Penguins are playing right now though. Their schedule has featured eight nationally-ranked programs, including Tuesday's loss to the Sunbirds (17-6).

Emily Prescott demonstrated that with Dominican's sole doubles victory, an 8-6 No. 3 doubles match with Francesca Katafias over Erin Carlson and Nicole Simoni. Prescott came up short in No. 4 singles play but battled until the end. After taking the first set 6-2, Anna Mikhaylova tied it with a 6-2 set. Prescott trailed 9-6 in the super tiebreaker before rallying to tie the set at 9-9. She took a 10-9 lead but Mikhaylova placed a ball down the line and went on to take the set 12-10.

Junior Irina Morozova and senior Gaby Verspieren fell 8-3 in No.1 doubles play to the No. 5 doubles team in the region. Marie Boura and Petra Jurova. Senior Ariana Paradis and Marissa Frazer fell 8-2 to Erika Januskova and Anna Mikhaylova.

Boura, the No. 4 singles player in the region, topped Irina Morozova in No. 1 singles play 6-1, 6-1. Jurova topped Verspieren 6-1, 6-3. Frazer, who won Dominican's lone match the last time the two teams met to open the season on Feb. 2, fell 6-2, 6-2 to Januskova. Katafias fell 6-0, 6-1 to Carlson and Paradis dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Simoni.

Dominican's Senior Day is on Thursday, April 11. First serve is now slated for 8:30 a.m. at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center. Seniors Jessica Curlett, Paradis, and Verspieren will be honored in a short pregame ceremony.
