Lorenza Foster-Simbulan answered a 6-1 loss in the first set with a 6-1 win in the second to keep the Penguins hopes alive. The top court was a battle between Yu and Dominican's
Maria Gavrilov. After Yu took an early lead Gavrilov answered to tie it up 3-3 in the first set, but Yu closed out for a 6-3 victory. Gavrilov got off to a strong start in the second set leading 2-0, but Yu answered wining the next three games to take a 3-2 lead. Gavrilov broke back and held serve to take a 4-3 lead and the duo continued to trade games from there heading into a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker followed suit with the rest of the set as Gavrilov took a lead and Yu would battle back. Yu found herself up 6-5 with a chance to clinch the match for her team and Gavrilov buried a forehand into the corner to level it once more. Yu finally put together the two points she needed to close out winning 7-6 (8) to end the Penguins' season.
