SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team sent its seniors off with a 9-0 victory over Dixie State University on Thursday. The win improved Dominican's home record to 6-4 and secured a winning record in the team's first year at the Castellucci Family Tennis Center in the John F. Allen Athletics Complex.
The Lady Penguins (7-10) established a 3-0 lead in doubles play. Senior
Gaby Verspieren and junior
Irina Morozova topped off Joy Naigeon and Ashley Anderson 8-3 on court one. In the No. 2 doubles match, senior
Ariana Paradis and junior
Marissa Frazer cruised to an 8-0 defeat of Paige Nisson and Anna Cronquist. Freshman
Francesca Katafias and junior
Emily Prescott closed out doubles play with an 8-4 victory over Sierra Smith and Lindsey Jones.
Dominican then swept Dixie State (3-12) in individual play as wel. Morozova topped Naigeon in No. 1 singles play and Frazer won her No. 3 match over Smith, both by the score of 6-0, 6-1. Verspieren topped Nisson 6-2, 6-0 in number two singles play while Prescott topped Anderson 6-1, 6-3 in No. 4 play. Paradis closed out her home career with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jones and fellow senior
Jessica Curlett preserved the sweep. After dropping the first set 6-4 she evened the match with a 6-2 set, and held on 10-7 in the super tiebreaker.
The Dominican women will head to San Francisco on Saturday, April 13 to face No. 38 Academy of Art University. After that, at the end of the month, Dominican will compete in the PacWest Women's Tennis Championships.
