GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team fell 7-2 to No. 15 ranked Cal State LA on Saturday.
Dominican (1-4) fell behind early doubles play by the Golden Eagles (4-2), who are ranked No. 4 in the West Region, despite an 8-6 victory at number two doubles by
Irina Morozova and
Emily Prescott over Christie Lau and Leora Hemmerich, the No. 8 doubles pairing in the West Region.
Marissa Frazer and
Gaby Verspieren fell 8-2 at number one doubles to Jill Sangria and Tiffani Shaik.
Ariana Paradis and
Francesca Katafias also fell 8-2 at number three doubles to Tiffany Leung and Sydney Postal.
Emily Prescott fell behind early, 6-0, but beat Shaik 7-6, 10-6 to take the number four singles match for Dominican. Morozova fell to Lau, the No. 6 player in the West Region, at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Verspieren fell 6-4, 6-2 at number two singles to Hemmerich, who is ranked No. 15 in the West Region. Frazer fell 6-3, 6-2 to Sangria. Katafias fell 6-0, 6-0 to Leung in the number five singles match and Paradis fell 6-3, 6-1 to Postal at number six singles.
Dominican returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 17 vs. UC San Diego, the No. 32 ranked team in NCAA Division II.
