Ariana Paradis played the closest of the Lady Penguins (1-3), falling in number six singles 6-1, 7-6(6) to Sophia Simmons. Paradis and her number three doubles partner,
Francesca Katafias, played close in vs. Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jade Griffin before bowing 8-4.
Irina Morozova fell 6-1, 6-1 to Annie Hwang, the top Division II player in the country and the reigning PacWest MVP.
Gaby Verspieren dropped her match 6-2, 6-1 to No. 34 Marika Kobayashi.
The number two ranked doubles pairing of Hwang and Sherry Liu was too much for Morozova and Jessica Frazer, 8-0.
The number 20 ranked doubles pairing of Kobayashi and Marietta Tuioneto defeated Verspieren and
Emily Prescott, 8-2.
The Lady Penguins face another nationally-ranked team on Saturday, Feb. 16 vs. No. 15 Cal State LA at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, Feb. 17 Dominican faces UC San Diego, and on Monday, Feb. 18, the Lady Penguins wrap up their four-match trip to Arizona vs. No. 14 Grand Canyon University.
