Women's Tennis Falls In Season Finale

Stephanie Lemp and the Lady Penguins finish the season at 3-14.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Dominican University of California women's tennis team saw their season come to end on Saturday with a 5-0 loss to the University of Hawai'i, Hilo at the 2010 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship.

The Lady Penguins were swept in doubles play, with Stephanie Lemp and Michele Freitas falling 8-1 in their final match together. Jessica Curlett and Anh Truong fell 8-2 and Katie Brown and Marli Sangervasi were shutout 8-0.

Brown and Sangervasi were both swept 6-0,6-0 in the No. 5 and 6 positions, respectively. The numbers one through four singles matches went unfinished although Dominican trailed in those matches as well.

BYU-Hawaii, who handed the Lady Penguins a 6-0 loss on the first day of the tournament, claimed all three doubles matches and captured second and sixth singles to beat Hawai'i Pacific 5-1 and claim the 2010 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women's Tennis Championship.

The Lady Penguins conclude the 2010 campaign with a 3-14 record under new Head Coach Gret Kennett. The season was Dominican's first as a Division II program and its first as a member of the PacWest.
