BELMONT, Calif. — The 2010 Dominican University of California women's tennis team debuted with a 6-3 victory on Thursday afternoon, defeating Notre Dame de Namur University in Pacific West Conference play.
The Lady Penguins (1-0) won their first and second pairings in both singles and doubles over the Argonauts (0-2).
Stephanie Lemp took the number one singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 win.
Michele Freitas secured the number two slot with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Anh Truong added a 6-1, 6-2 singles victory in the four slot and
Jessica Curlett earned the 6-2, 6-4 win at the six position for her first-ever collegiate win.
Lemp and Freitas paired up to win the number one doubles matchup 8-6.
Tami Tan paired with Truong to win their doubles set 8-4.
"We've had a lot of rain lately that's hindered our practice schedule," said Dominican Head Coach
Greg Kennett "After our first match was rained out we knew it would be tough but we responded well. Getting the win is a great way to start the season."
The Lady Penguins next hit the court on Thursday, Feb. 18 when Sierra College visits Forest Meadows for a non-conference match. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m.
