HONOLULU, Hawai'i — The Dominican University of California women's soccer snapped a two-game losing streak with a 2-0 shutout of Chaminade University on Monday afternoon to climb back to the .500 mark in Pacific West Conference play.

In the 32nd minute, junior Katie Brown notched her seventh assist of the season as senior Bridget Folan kicked home her first goal of the season to put Dominican (5-7-1/4-4-1) ahead. The Lady Penguins added an insurance goal though in the 73rd minute, with Alex Moran finding Mary Wheeler for her third goal of the season.

Dominican controlled all aspects of the match, limiting the Silver Swords (2-7-0/2-6-0) to four shots, three on goal. At the opposite end of the field, Dominican tallied shot upon shot, taking 19, a dozen of which were placed on goal. The Lady Penguins also took three corner kicks and did not allow one Chaminade.

Keeper Megan Herring preserved the shutout by stopping all three Silver Sword balls directed her way.

"I was very pleased with our overall play today. I would have liked to see a few more goals, but our possession and ball movement was phenomenal. We really focused on working on our movement off the ball and possession today and I was pleased with the result of our play," Dominican Head Coach Jon Delano said.

"Nicole Massoumi and Kathryn Ripple were excellent as centerbacks and Katie Brown is always dangerous when she gets into the attack," Delano added. "Shayna Elkins really controlled the midfield for us today and she is playing some of the best soccer I have ever seen her play."

The Lady Penguins now move islands to Hilo where they will play the University of Hawai'i - Hilo on Wednesday, October 20. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m./3:30 p.m. Pacific.
