IRVINE, Calif. –
Megan Clapinski became the first Dominican women's soccer player to win PacWest Player of the Year leading four Penguins on the All-Pacific West Conference team.
Clapinski was the first player to win a conference special award on the women's side since Lauren Gollnick was named the 2012 PacWest Freshman of the Year. Clapinski broke Gollnick's single-season points record during the NCAA Division II Era that was set in that 2012 season as Clapinski finished the regular season with 21 points while also breaking the D2 era single season goal scoring record with nine. Both marks were the top of the PacWest conference as Dominican finished in a tie for third in the conference standings and advanced to its first every PacWest Championships appearance. Clapinski shared Player of the Year honors with Bella Barrett of CUI with both being named First Team All-PacWest
Joining Clapinski on the first team was teammate
Janae Schwan as she finished second on the team with 11 points, scoring four goals to go with three assists. Schwan was the leader of the midfield and a free kick specialist showing off pinpoint accuracy on shots and passes alike to give the Penguins a dangerous element in their offensive attack. Ashlynn Hill followed up her PacWest Player of the Week honors to finish the season with a Second Team All-PacWest selection as a forward finishing with three goals and two assists.
Tahlia Smith wrapped up the honors for Dominican being named Third Team All-PacWest as a defender leading the Penguins to their lowest goals against average in the NCAA Division II era with a stingy 0.72.
Dominican will take on top seed Azusa Pacific on Thursday to open the conference tournament at 11 a.m. PST at PLNU Soccer Field in San Diego.
