Dominican men's basketball huddles together pre-game

Penguins set new record in NABC Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dominican men's basketball set a new program record with 10 players selected to the 2024-25 NABC Honors Court while also earning the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award for the second consecutive year.

"We're proud of what our student-athletes were able to accomplish in the classroom this past academic year," head coach Justin Argenal said. "It was a true testament to their commitment to better themselves and also represent our program the right way. A team GPA of 3.22, receiving the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, and having 10 members of our team selected to the NABC Honors Court is no small feat! We look forward to continuing our academic success and having it carry over into the 25-26 academic school year."

The NABC's academic awards are presented annually to teams and athletes from all levels of college basketball. The NABC Honors Court, meanwhile, includes junior, senior and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the 2024-25 year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

"Education is one of the NABC's five core values, and we are proud to recognize the academic accomplishments of these programs and individual student-athletes across our sport," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The dedication and hard work of these athletes, along with their coaches and support staff members who prioritize academic success, deserves to be widely celebrated."

The Penguins had previously placed six players on the Honors Court in the 2015-16 and 2019-20 school years. DM Sanders received the prestigious recognition for the second season, the only repeat honoree from the 2023-24 season. Joining him were Ezekiel Stallworth, Jaayden Bush, Jett Snure, Jordan Archie, Jorge Ochoa, Nanik Tagore, Nathan Ilunga, Omari Davis and Stephen Ransom.

The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize programs that completed the 2024-25 academic year with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Dominican's longest streak earning the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award was eight seasons before coaching changes interrupted the streak and the nomination process.

Over 2,400 players earned spots on the NABC Honors Court and nearly 400 programs received NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards for 2024-25. A full list of Honors Court recipients is available by clicking here.
