IRVINE, Calif.- Dominican men's basketball wrapped up their season down in southern California as they squared off against the Golden Eagles of Concordia University Irvine. The Penguins had three scorers in double figures with redshirt junior
DM Sanders leading the way with 21 points and six boards. However, it was the Golden Eagles who came out on top in this one winning 68-59.
Sanders, the San Diego native, felt right at home back in southern California giving the CUI fits all game long driving it hard to the basket while also mixing in a couple of smooth looking jumpers. His 21 points against the Golden Eagles gave him 233 total points for the season and he looks to build off a strong 2024-25 campaign heading into next year.
Right behind Sanders in the scoring department for Dominican was another southern California native, junior
Jorge Ochoa. Ochoa, the Los Angeles native, tallied 14 points while going an efficient 3 for 4 from the charity stripe. The Pengs offense ran through Ochoa to start the ballgame as he was finding early success in the paint. Towards the end of the first half, Ochoa drained a three-pointer which gave Dominican the slight momentum as they headed into the lockers up by one.
The CUI offense would come out hungry in the second half led by Jaden Henderson who would give the Golden Eagles a 10-point advantage midway through. Henderson would finish with a game high 28 points.
Darius Best would give the Pengs that third scoring threat providing his best minutes in the second half finding soft spots in the Golden Eagles defense. Best finished the game with 11 points while grabbing six rebounds.
The Penguins will look to build on the bright spots from this past season in hopes to establish the right culture moving forward into the 2025-26 season.
