Penguins make mark across the state of California

Adrian Aguirre set a new personal best at the Mt. Sac Relays as he looks to qualify for the NCAA Championships while Dominican men's track and field placed fifth at the Johnny Mathis Invitaional with the women claiming eighth at the event.
 
Aguirre raced twice in Southern California first finishing seventh at the Bryan Clay Invitational with a time of 14.10 topping runners from the likes of CUI and Arkanas among a field of all divisions of the NCAA. Not satisfied with his performance, Aguirre took aim at the Mt. Sac Relays racing in the elite division where he finished in 13.68 seconds, shaving .15 seconds off his time for a mark that would rank the top in the PacWest and third nationally coming into the week.
 
Up north, the Penguins set many new personal records with Sienna Fassett also becoming the first woman to compete in the steeplechase for Dominican as she finished with a time of 13:32.94 to finish ninth. Danny Salmeron Romeo also raced in the steeplechase on the men's side setting a new personal best of 11:22.21 to take 10th overall. A pair of Penguins set new bests in the 1500m as Diego Montag outstretched a runner from Saint Mary's for eighth with a finish of 4:00.12. Bella Bueno not only set a personal record but also a program record in the event crossing the finish line in 4:50.85to place 10th among collegiate competitors.
 
Courtney Santos continued to dominate the 5000m for the Penguins as she set a school record of 18:50.63 to place 11th in the event ahead of runners from Cal State Monterey Bay and De Anza college. Worthy Gutierrez wrapped up the top performers in the track events as he set a new PR of 49.92 seconds to place second overall in the 400m only trailing Levi Laden of UC Santa Cruz by .1 seconds.
 
In the field, Andrew Reinhard finished second with a throw of 47.28m with Jeroam Wood-Pina in seventh at 39.24m. Augustus Muse also claimed team points for the Penguins as he set a personal best on his final throw of 33.02m to top Justin Heckman of Jessup. Lisandro Guzman was the final athlete to set a personal and program record as he finished sixth in pole vault with a mark of 2.75m.
 
Dominican men's team scored 55 points to beat teams from Cal Poly Humboldt, Portland, USF, CSUMB and Santa Clara. The women finished with 36 points topping Cal State East Bay, Pacific and Cal Poly Humboldt.
