TURLOCK, Calif. – Dominican cross country set some personal bests as it competed Saturday night in the Kim Duyst Twilight at Rver Oaks Golf Course.
Sarah Chavez led the women's team to a seventh-place finish as she shattered her personal best by 43 seconds as she crossed the finish line of the 6k in 26:12.5 to finish 51st as an individual. Mirand Lam was close behind her finishing the first 6k of her collegiate career in 26:40.8 to top Kasia Holland of UC Merced for 53rd on the individual leaderboard.
Karsyn Walton added a 60th place finish with a time of 27:53.9 in her first 6k as a Penguin.
Sienna Fassett finished with a time of 31:02.0 to take 69th while
Vivian Rodrigues took 74th with a time of 34:42.5.
Jaqueline Hurtado rounded out the team with a time of 39:16.7 to take 77th.
Diego Montag continued to impress in his young Dominican career as he led his team with a 26:03.6 time in his first 8k for the Penguins. Jeroam Wood-Piña added a time of 29:04.4 to finish 77th overall and topping a runner from PacWest foe Jessup.
Javier Machado crossed the finish line in 30:21.1 to edge out an unattached runner for 83rd by two seconds. Starlight (José) Lain-Straus rounded out the squad finishing 90th with a time of 34:15.5.
Dominican will return to the course Friday as it competes at the Pacific Invite at Micke Grove Golf Course.
