Schrodt conference tournament

Three golfers earn top-10 finishes as men's golf takes second at PacWest Championship

| By:
Litchfield, ARIZ. -- Dominican University of California men's golf placed second in the PacWest Championships after senior Christian Schrodt and graduate student Josh Morris earned the first and second best final round scores, respectively, on Wednesday in Arizona. The second place finish as a team was the Penguins' best conference championship finish in nearly a decade when they also finished second in 2015.

Schrodt finished the final round atop the leader board with a 3-under par on the final day while Morris finished at even par. Shrodt was one of only two golfers to have a round under 70 with the other golfer also shooting a 3-under just days earlier. Schrodt played better as the tournament wore on, shaving 10 strokes off his first round score before taking home a third place overall finish for the tournament at 4-over. Morris' first and second round were only one stroke off one another while his final round tally was three shots less than his round one score of 3-over. His final round pushed him up the leader board to an eventual fifth place finish at 7-over par while junior Sam Nielsen also finished the tournament in style, taking home a 10th place finish to round out the three golfers that cracked the top-10 conference rankings in the championship tournament.

Sam Nielsen's first round score of 1-over par set the tone for the remainder of his tournament as he spent much of his time holding onto his top-10 ranking, eventually doing enough to place among the conference best at 10-over par on the week. Senior's Elliott Nielsen and Derek Hamilton rounded out the Dominican golfers that participated in the tournament with both golfers ending the week narrowly outside the top-10, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively. with scores of +11 and + 12. As a team, the men's squad shot a +25 over the course of the three round tournament, tallying 889 total strokes as a team.
