San Francisco, CALIF. – Dominican University of California's
Jared Wright narrowly missed a top-10 finish in the first race of the season, finishing 11
th among the field of 126 runners.
Wright paced the men's team and was seen among the top-5 runners for a healthy stretch of the race, before eventually finishing the 8K track with a time of 25:19.9. Senior
Jacob Potere was next in line for Dominican, finishing 34
th with a time of 26:00.6, with senior
Stefan Mueller a few ticks behind in 37
th with an official time of 26:03.6. Freshman
Jose Lain-Strause earned a final time of 32:17.6, while senior
Cisco Gonzalez crossed the line with a final time of 32:31.9. Sophomore
Hayden Peregrino finished with a time of 39:59.1 to round out the competitors for the Penguins.
As a team, the Penguins took home a 10
th place finish but found themselves topped by only three other Division II programs as the field was a mix of athletes from different levels of competition.
On the women's side, Dominican placed 13
th as a team with all of its runners finishing within 17 spots of one another. Junior
Emma Wuelfing crossed the finish line with a time of 26:52.8 with Sophomore
Mary Jo Gallegos close behind with a time of 27:02.4. Freshman
Sienna Fassett and senior
Sophia Zertuche finished the race one after the other with times of 29:14.2 and 29:23.5, respectively, as senior
Morgan Semana rounded out the racers with a time of 33:52.0.
The two teams now prepare for next Saturday when they head to Turlock for the Kim Duyst Invitational.
