Dominican track and field once again divided as it competed this week at the Johnny Mathis Invitational with Wakilli Bennet representing the Penguins at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Men's Recap
Bennett headed south to compete in a strong field of athletes from all levels of the NCAA at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa. Competing in Heat seven against runners from the NCAA Division I from UC Davis and Grand Canyon, Bennett finished third with a time of 10.89 seconds beating Trik Jones of Paradise Valley by .03 seconds. He then competed in the 200 meter where he sprinted past Will Watkins of Pepperdine to take the top spot in heat 14 with a new program record of 21.74 seconds. His time also pushed him into the top-5 of the PacWest where he trails Daquan Berry by .02 seconds for fourth.

At the Johnny Mathis Invitational in San Francisco,
Isaiah Carter gave Dominican its first points on the men's side as he took 9th overall and fourth among NCAA competitors with a discuss throw of 24.44m.
Jared Wright then came close to his best time in the 5000m as he took ninth overall and fifth among NCAA athletes as he finished in 15:13.62, less than a second behind Bailey Williams of host school San Francisco State in section two.

Cisco Gonzalez set a new personal best in the 1500m as he finished 10th in his heat with crossing the finish line in 4:51.60 topping his previous high by nearly four seconds set just a week ago.
Xavier Mendoza finished 11th in section one of the 5000m as he finished in 15:58.92.

Women's Recap
The Penguins javelin squad continued to impress at the Johnny Mathis Invitational as
Caytlin Capulong's fourth throw set a new program record of 25.76 meters good for seventh place and three team points. Her throw also pushed her into a tie with Joley Sproul of Biola for 14th among conference competitors.

Not to be outdone,
Emma Wuelfing broke her previous personal best with a throw of 24.98 meters on her third attempt, beating her previous top mark by more than three meters. Wulefing finished in eighth to give Dominican two more team points. She is now in 17th in the PacWest just .19 meters behind Maesyn Rix of Fresno Pacific.

Tiffany Wong paced section two of the women's 100m with a wind assisted time of 13.96 while
Michelle Chang took third in the section with a time of 14.53 seconds.
Kiana Pelton posted the top time for the Penguins in the event with a wind legal time of 13.88 to finish fourth in section three.

Emma Digman joined the list of Dominican athletes setting personal records on the week as she took third in section two of the 800 meter with a finish 2:33.82 to beat out Genesis Obispo of Cal State San Bernardino by four seconds with the top time for NCAA Division II participants in the section. Pelton took the top time in section one of the 200 meter in a wind aided time of 29.22 seconds which is her fastest time of the season.

Dominican now sets its eyes on the PacWest Championships beginning April 29 as it awaits a final list of qualifiers.
