ALAMEDA, Calif. –
Claire Shubin posted her lowest round of the spring so far to lead Dominican women's golf into seventh place after the first round of competition at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course.
Cal State East Bay led all teams at 4 over par with Cal State LA in second at 10 over and Academy of Art in third at 11 over. Dominican finished at 18 over par on the day, three strokes outside of the top-5 and three strokes ahead of Holy Names in eighth place.
Shubin started the round on fire as she collected three birdies on the first six holes finishing the front nine at 2 under par. She birdied the 10th hole to keep her under par round going but a double bogey on 17 pushed her back to even par for the day. She finished the round tied for sixth, two strokes behind a three way tie for first place on the individual board.

Lauren Parayno and
Alissa Salazar took different paths to a first round score of 6-over 78 with all three finishing the day tied for 32nd with
Phoebe Sundberg who was competing as an individual.
Angelica Antonio rounded out the team for the Penguins with a round of 11 over par to finish the day tied for 60th.
Dominican will tee off for its final round of the tournament Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. PST.
